This is our dear Betsey. She was Betsey Button-Bright many years ago, eighteen actually. We found her under a porch, only a few weeks old, her eyes and nose caked shut with mucous. She was too weak, and couldn't see to run and hide with her mother and siblings, so we caught her. She looked like a beautiful brown striped leaf when we held her in our hand, and she didn't seem to weigh more than a leaf. She had pneumonia, was severely dehydrated, and blind. But she got better at the AAS cat shelter, even the blindness, which was caused by malnutrition. It took every resource and all our faith, and now she's attained the status of Grand Old Lady, and the right to nap amongst the rose petals.. Photo credit: Sarah Stone |
