Cats are treated as disposable objects to be thrown away when their welcome is worn out. They are terrified, sicken, suffer, and pine for the "family" who cruelly abused them this way. They do not know how to blame. Alice is one of millions...
Animal Advocates BC gets pleas for help everyday. Here is one story we can tell you because it ends so happily...

"I live in Prince George, in city limits but in the country. I have noticed a feral cat around recently and it is in such bad shape. It has no hair on part of its tail, or on it right side, and the hair is falling off the left side. I would like to catch it and have it checked out, spayed or neutered and then leave it be.
I looked for help locally but couldn't get any. This poor little creature is suffering, but I think it could be helped and then just carry on living wild with me feeding it and watching out for it. Can Animal Advocates help it?"

Of course we can... that is what we do, all over BC. We couldn't bear the thought of this poor wee thing struggling to stay alive, but too afraid to tell Gwen that she needed her, very badly!  We got a humane trap to Gwen and we guaranteed that AAS would pay the cat's vet bills. Gwen successfully trapped the cat, then sent us this news after the vet's examination.
"Well it is confirmed that the is female and about a year old.  We've named her Alice. That means she has been living out here for over half her life trying to survive. She is very friendly and not at all feral.
"She is full of worms but the vet determined the hair loss is related to stress and malnutrition."  AAS has already paid for an exam, vaccines, and deworming.

You can see the tail and the hair loss on the sides of her body in the photos.

"She is so friendly and would not sit still very much. She was too busy attacking us for pats and cuddles. We would love to keep her if it is what she wants, she is a total cuddlebug and certainly does not deserve to live in such hardship. We officially have become the crazy cat ladies!"
AAS has already paid for an exam, vaccines, and deworming.  We will also be paying for her spay, a tattoo, and the continuation of deworming, and any other medical needs that may arise.  Gwen is going to make sure she is safe from the terror of abandonment and death for the rest of her life.
"Little Alice has settled in. She is growing fur back on her tail and on her sides, there is a noticeable difference already. Likely due to the good food and the supplements she is getting.
She took an immediate liking to the all the dogs. Dakota in particular is her favorite. They follow each other around. As soon as Dakota settles, Alice lies down with her.
Alice has learned the routine. She knows when it is feeding time and she is getting used to the other cats too.
What a cuddly girl. When you pick her up she leans into your neck and chest and purrs up a storm. So sad to think of her living out there on her own and having no one to cuddle with or lie with."

We're an animal rescue, humane, and advocacy society.  Animal Advocates Society assists in animal rescue in BC and all over North America.  We have helped dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and horses.

There has been such a flood of appeals for help this year that we may not be able to reply very quickly or at all to more appeals.

AAS is now so well-known for its high standards and experience in all animal welfare and rescue matters that we are asked for advice and help from all over BC, Canada, the U.S. and the world.  For years I have answered each and every appeal with detailed advice that I have learned from 20 years of rescue, advocacy and animal law.

We are currently working on so many projects that I am sorry to have to say that we may not be able to respond to all the cries for help we hear as quickly as we want to. AAS ethical standards are simple and straightforward, but a lot of work: Every rescued dog is given the exact same love and care that I give my own dogs.  Anything less can't be morally justified.  To weigh the costs, to kill, or to rehome without paying to make the dog well in body and spirit is not true animal welfare: it's moving as much product as fast as possible and to demand money for unwell product is a business, not a calling.
