Lytton Cat Colony Rescue

We were notified of a cat colony in BC's interior that had started multiplying when an elderly woman passed away, leaving an unaltered male and female to live on her property. Local people were dumping bags of cat food, and consequently, with food and shelter, the cats soon began to reproduce. We estimate there are about 40 to 50 cats in the colony. To date, we've caught fourteen. We've set four more traps, so hopefully there will be more soon. The first fourteen I caught were a Mama and her six kittens. She was very thin and unable to provide enough milk for the kittens, so we supplemented their diets with kitten milk replacement.

Currently, seven cats are booked for exams, vaccines, treatment for worms, ear and eye infections if needed, and altered on Dec. 5, 11, and 12th.

This rescue mission is enormously expensive. Kitten milk costs $22 for only 10 ounces, and there be many cans needed.

Added to kitten bills, there will much higher bills for every adult in the colony: neuters, spays, vaccines, treatment for disease conditions such as eye and ear infections, and parasite treatment. Colony cats are almost always dangerously infested with fleas and worms. The fleas can suck so much blood that the kittens die. And worms get most of the food.

There is a lot of work to do. If you would like to help us complete this job before there are more kittens, you can make a donation and specify that it is for the cat colony rescue.
