Cat Rescue in Prince George BC

Out of Love – Out of Pocket

Stories of real animal welfarists, real no-kill rescuers.
Make a donation to AAS marked "For Cats" and we will apply your donation to bills for cat rescue around BC. The real work of compassionate animal rescue is done by many hundreds of small groups and individuals who get no government money, and have no money for press releases and p.r. Nor do they kill. Over the decades these women have raised millions of dollars by holding bake sales, garage sales and raffles. Every last bit of their rescue work and fundraising is done by volunteers; and when there isn't enough money, these women pay out of their own pockets. Find your local animal rescue group and donate to it to keep it alive, just as it keeps all its precious animals alive.
One of AAS's jobs is the raising of funds to help to pay the bills for as many of these alternative rescuers as we can.

But we can do more. Help us by donating to cat rescue.

Prince George BC is another place where there are many dogs and cats that need AAS's help. For May 2010 Update Scroll Down

Dear AAS,

These are the rescue stories I was telling you about over the phone. Your help with this will be greatly appreciated by these lucky cats and kittens.

Two stray cats came to Trish T's house as a pair. She could not bring them into her home because her own cat would not accept them. She built a house with blankets and fed them there. She didn't want to send them to the SPCA because she was afraid that they might be put down. One month ago the grey Mama had 4 orange kittens. Trish then brought them into her home and gave them a room of their own.

A week and a half ago, the Siamese tabby cross had 4 white kittens and one kitten passed away. They are now in a room of their own as well. Trish is on disability and has limited funds to supply them with all the food and litter they need. Within a month or two, the Mamas will have to be spayed, and then all the babies will need their first vaccines and then all will have to be given to loving, worthy humans.

AAS immediately sent money for high-quality food, for litter, and will pay for all the vaccines and to have the Mama cats spayed. This will cost $700 - $900. We have committed to that, but we could use your help, just as these cats and kittens got so much help from their rescuers and AAS.

Three weeks ago, Jasmine G had a 7 month old very hungry and frightened female cat show up at her doorstep. Jasmine fed her but the cat never left. She is now in heat and needs to be adopted to a loving, responsible home as soon as she is over her heat and spayed.

AAS committed to all the bills for this cat too.

Please donate to "Cat Rescue" as soon as you can.

May 2010 Update: She has been spayed, vaccinated and a new good home found for her. Thank you AAS cat-lovers who paid for her rescue.

May 2010: The Mommas and Kittens Are Ready for Spaying and Vaccines

Grey Momma and Siamese cross Momma are ready to be spayed and vaccinated and the kittens are old enough for their first vaccines. Then homes can be found for all of them, but only responsible families will get these dear beings whose only hope was to be rescued by ethical rescuers. It is not ethical to give away cats or kittens before this has been done, and never has been. In fact, little or no money spent to ensure the adult females can't produce more kittens, is not adopting, it is selling. When kittens are sold without screening or home checks, that is also selling, not adopting. This is not a new ethic. Moral rehomers have always known what is ethical and no matter what the cost, they have done the right thing. They often do it out of their own pockets.

We're an animal rescue, humane, and advocacy society. Animal Advocates Society assists in animal rescue in BC and all over North America. We have helped dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and horses.

There has been such a flood of appeals for help this year that we may not be able to reply very quickly or at all to more appeals.

AAS is now so well-known for its high standards and experience in all animal welfare and rescue matters that we are asked for advice and help from all over BC, Canada, the U.S. and the world. For years I have answered each and every appeal with detailed advice that I have learned from 20 years of rescue, advocacy and animal law.

We are currently working on so many projects that I am sorry to have to say that we may not be able to respond to all the cries for help we hear as quickly as we want to. AAS ethical standards are simple and straightforward, but a lot of work: Every rescued dog is given the exact same love and care that I give my own dogs. Anything less can't be morally justified. To weigh the costs, to kill, or to rehome without paying to make the dog well in body and spirit is not true animal welfare: it's moving as much product as fast as possible and to demand money for unwell product is a business, not a calling.
