The Fox affiliate in Richmond, WRLH-TV, contracted with a pest control company to eradicate a colony of feral cats who made their home on station property. Three cats were trapped and killed, and many more remained in harms way when the company brought bulldozers on site to eliminate the cats’ homes.
Now the operator of Critter Control, the pest control company – Keith Copi – is facing up to a year in jail on each of three charges of unnecessarily killing feral cats. Copi is charged under animal-cruelty statutes that make it illegal to kill any animal unnecessarily.
The good news is that the community of rescuers came together to protect the rest of the cats who will be trapped, spayed or neutered, and either returned or adopted depending upon temperament and age.
