Did society ever venture out of the dark ages? Pick any animal species, anywhere in the world. Animals are abused, tortured, shot, hunted, habitats lost, etc, etc, and it is quite obvious that we have not really progressed very far after all.

Close to home we have our beautiful bears being slaughtered because they are hungry. Late berries, declining fish stocks, loss of habitat, poaching is alive on the Island, etc, etc.

I lived in the North (Yellowknife) and knew someone who shot 4 caribou, decided he didn't need them and left them at the town dump. However, when he dumped them he left his hunting tags on them which is how they tracked him down. If memory serves correct, he got a slap on the wrist while four lovely creatures rotted on the dump. That was in the 70's.
