Hello, I am new to this site and have never posted but I am posting hoping that someone can offer me some advice and possibly assistance.
About one month ago my dog Jordi bit a child while out with his dog walker. He has since been impounded in the Vancouver Pound. On Friday I was told that they would be going to Provincial Court with an application for an order to euthanize.
I understand that he was assessed by their animal behaviorist, but despite being told that I would be given the oppourtunity to speak with her and view her report, I am now being told that I can only view the report after having been to court.
I am willing to do anything to save Jordi but I am a student and a mental health worker. I am currently on a practicum and don't have the resources to finance a long, drawn out battle, particularly if the pound decides to enforce their fee for care and maintenance of my dog while he is there.
I have been in contact with an animal behaviorist and with a lawyer, with whom I have a half hour ($28) consult on Monday.
I have also sent in a freedom of information request for the report about my dog but was denied as the pound has said the investigation is ongoing. I gather from what I have been told at the pound that they will continue to say it is ongoing unless forced to give me a copy.
My question to this group is, what options do I have as a person on low income?
Ultimately I would like to keep the dog with me but I understand that re-homing him may be preferred by a judge. I also want him to stay alive but not at the cost of suffering for years, or even months, in a kennel environment.
Thank you for any help you can provide me on this matter, I really appreciate it.
