No-one has spoken of setting dogs and cats free to fend for themselves except Ms. Lapointe, so I would suggest that at this point she is only arguing with herself.
The abolition of slavery of animals is a goal to strive towards, and the quickest way to do that is to stop the breeding of animals for human use.
Whether or not that message offends any or lots of the public is immaterial. Any message that inconviniences "the public" is upsetting. We are not a species that likes to be thwarted in our desires.
However, "upsetting" messages do sometimes cause people to think, and to question old ideas and ways of being. Being upset can then be a positive thing, a catalyst for change.
