Gentle Ben: I negotiated a surrender of this poor Shepherd x Lab ....the best Christmas present I could hope for! *PIC*

I negotiated a surrender of this poor Shepherd x Lab ....the best Christmas present I could hope for! I'm calling him Ben because he's so gentle.

For the past few days I had been attempting to work with the owners of this dog to bring him in out of the cold... they didn't believe that the dog's shaking was due to shivering because of the cold!

Poor Ben, during the recent sub-zero weather and wind his 'inside' home was the concrete floor in the garage. He was chained to a hook in the floor. Where he got terrified with the high winds we had recently he chewed the stairs that lead into the house in desperation to get shelter and comfort. I saw Ben cower when the woman owner came into the garage.

The SPCA came to the home in the summer due to complaints. They took away the one-year old lab, saying to the owners that they could rehome the younger dog, but they wouldn't take Ben because he was older so less likely they could rehome him...poor Ben. He was chained up for 7 years. The owners told me that the SPCA said the igloo dog house was fine.

Ben needs a loving patient foster or adoptive home. He is a seven year old shepherd lab X. He is a bit timid...but responds well to treats and a gentle voice...loves to give licks. I had him out for a walk on leash the other day, and he was fine with a male dog we met, in fact, backed off when the other male got more aggressive. He really, really likes my rescued Rottie cross, DeeDee, and she really likes him, and there's not many dogs she does like! He's a real gentleman.

It's such a blessed relief to have a place to read about rescue where there isn't any thought of killing the animal
Here is the dog that was taken by the SPCA *PIC*
