When they went to pick the dog up, it had been euthanized!!! *LINK*

I am not a cat person (we have dogs and I am involved in dog rescue), but I am an animal lover and would not see any animal abused or neglected and I volunteered to go and get these cats and make sure they got looked after. I kept them overnight and took them in the morning to where I thought they would best be able to find a good home (the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society). I questioned the people about what would happen to them and was assured that they would be looked after. I told them I would be checking up on them and they told me the cats would be assessed in the next 72 hours, but that because it was a Thursday, these cats would have extra time since the facility was closed on the weekend. I called at 9:00 a.m. on the Monday morning and was told that they were all sick and were euthanized when I brought them in. That just is not true. I even considered keeping one of the kittens for my mom who lives with us, but mom is 91 years old and she decided against it even though she knows that we would never adopt an animal unless it was for the life of the animal. I regretted that I hadn't at least kept one kitten who could have been saved.

I would NEVER recommend that anyone take an animal to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society. In my ignorance, I used to support them with donations, thinking I was actually helping animals in need. I didn't realize that they are actually a high-kill 'shelter'. The previous year (2007), a beautiful dog was found running as a stray near St. Jacobs, Ontario. It was a large breed (I forget the breed), and because there was nowhere for it to spend the night, the people who found it took it to the K-W Humane Society until they could arrange a temporary home or find its owner. When they went to pick the dog up, it had been euthanized!!! They were told that it had an ear infection! These people were outraged and a website was started at that time and I signed up for emergency overnight care.

I would never give another penny to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society where an animal is killed for no good reason.

That is the reason I became involved in dog rescue. I have joined LOYAL RESCUE (www.loyalrescue.com) and we take in dogs of any breed who are in danger of being euthanized.
