And pets are just "product" to some big "animal welfare" societies

"Do humans even have the right to make other living beings into objects of production that we can kill even when it is unnecessary to do so?"

This question is just as pertinent to pet animals as it does to food animals. That pet animals are "product" to their breeders and sellers isn't hard to grasp. What the average person still hasn't grasped yet is that they are also "product" to many animal welfare societies. In fact, they are sometimes called "product" by the employees of the societies large enough and wealthy enough to have employees. The societies that call feeling creatures "product" are the same ones that dispose of unsellable product by killing it.

In twenty years of animal welfare and animal rescue I have not once heard any honest animal welfarist or animal rescuer call the animals in its care "product". Not one! It has never crossed any of their compassionate minds. It is shocking to hear big animal societies use that word for animals, just as if they were so many shoes or computers. It tells the tale in one shockingly true word.

As for the killing of pets by big animal welfare societies being claimed "necessary"? Depends on what you call necessary. Some say it may be "necessary" to kill for ear mites. "Necessary" is a word of convenience.
