More openness needed on research involving animals

Re: UBC must come clean about animal research, Sept. 27
It horrifies me that the University of B.C. is so secretive about animal
experimentation.
I can only wonder what it's hiding. Alternatives to the use of animals
in research exist.
UBC should exert a little effort and switch to them.
As the American philosopher Charles R. Magel observed, "Ask the
experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is,
'Because the animals are like us.' Ask the experimenters why it is
morally OK to experiment on animals, and the answer is, 'Because the
animals are not like us.'"
Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction.
