The terrible dilemna faced by the BCSPCA is that they can only work within the regulations: the Criminal Code specifies that
certain things are cruel UNLESS deemed 'necessary'...... ergo, factory farms, research, etc. are accepted and their brutality
is condoned by our own legislation.. We have to change the legislation urgently, so that nothing falls outside the code.
I do know that there may have been scientific protocols that the BCSPCA has been able to stop, and you can just imagine how
horrendous they must have been.... John Hepburn overlooks the fact that the BCSPCA has never spoken out in support of this ACC
and depends on British Columbians to come together to change a terrible system.....
For the BCSPCA to withdraw from the ACC would be a symbolic gesture that would say a great deal,but public apathy being such
it would be forgotten, and then there would be absolutely no-one on the animals' side at UBC, however lightly they have to tread.....
