The sad thing is that this man is not unlike a lot of people...they believe that using any animal for sport and/or entertainment is perfectly all right. There are a lot of people who would even look at the picture of the Salmo dogs and see nothing wrong.
Their brains just don't go to the place where one tries to imagine what kind of a life the animal is having. The thought that dogs are social and really, REALLY want and need to be with their people does not even fleetingly cross their minds. They see the whole thing only from the point of view of the human who is involved in competition and/or using the dogs for profit. The same as when they kill a deer and then celebrate their 'victory' over an animal that wasn't able to outrun a bullet. These people call these activities 'sport'. There is no sport when some members of the team are chained and forced to perform or die. There is no sport when one side has a weapon and the other doesn't. These people rarely change their point of view, no matter how much evidence they are faced with. Slowly, the upcoming generations are being asked to pause and THINK about some of these issues, and that is the way it will change, in time. I don't think this guy is gullible, I think he just sees the whole thing as being an acceptable way to treat dogs. A large number of people view animals in the same way as the BCSPCA does - as long as there is any sort of food and water around, it's all good. And the most tragic thing about it all is that dogs will accept unfair treatment and still try as hard as they can, and will live their entire lives in hopes of a kind word or the gentle touch of a human hand.
