We only have this person's word and she is not known to us. We have to be careful not to make unsubstantiated allegations. We believe what she has told us, but believing isn't knowing and we have no way to check what we have been told. And evidence can be hidden. It is up to the City of Burnaby and the BC SPCA (which has the name and address of the store) to investigate further. It is up to AAS to make this kind of animal abuse public knowledge and to make the duly appointed and paid authorities take action.

If the City of Burnaby really does not want this kind of mistreatment of animals in stores that are licensed to do business in Burnaby, as it has said it does not, then it should be passing effective bylaws.

The SPCA can determine if animals in pet stores are in distress and can seize. It is high time they did. Pet stores in BC are like third-world dives.
