Dog dragged along road

A Gabriola Island man is being investigated for animal cruelty after his dog was tied to a bumper and dragged behind a car for the length of about five football fields.

Molly, a two-year-old wirehaired pointer, will need skin grafts and remains in veterinary care since Saturday's incident.

Her owner, who surrendered the dog to Nanaimo SPCA, told veterinary staff he tied his pet to the bumper and drove about 500 metres along a road.

The B.C. SPCA cruelty investigation department is investigating. The man not named, could face criminal charges if investigators find evidence of wilful neglect or failure to exercise reasonable care.
