Re: KEISHA - she had a home to go to...

Hello everyone, my name is Carly. I often visit this board to read the posts, especially anything about pitbulls as my husband and I are avid pit fans and proud owners of two of them. I would jump at the chance to help in any way I could for these dogs. I often visit the SPCA pages to see what they have for adoption, and it was in December that I came across Keisha at the Maple Ridge SPCA. I called the shelter and emailed Darcy (Maple Ridge SPCA volunteer)about Keisha, and we decided that we were going to adopt her. The next day we travelled from Nanaimo to Maple Ridge to take Keisha home. When we got there we were told that Keisha was no longer for adoption as her owner had come forward to claim her. Her owner being someone who obviously had not cared for the dog in the first place as she had been found wandering on the side of the road. So instead we adopted another pit, a little red nose that we named Honey. The next week I called the shelter back to see if Keisha had gone back to her owners. If she hadn't we were going to go back to bring her home as well. The only answer that I got was that she wasn't for adoption. I called several more times and got the same answer each time. Finally we were told that her owner had picked her up. Today I read an e-mail from Darcy telling me that Keisha had been transferred and put down recently. I am so angry! Why were we not offered the chance to adopt her?!! We are experienced, responsible pit bull owners (we had already adopted Honey from this shelter so they know this!) and they knew that i still was interested in adopting her. But instead of letting this pit go to a loving forever home, she was added to the growing number of unwanted pits that are put down. When is something going to be done?? When i read about Keisha I was so angry, now I am confused as to how this could have happened. I guess i just wanted to let this off of my chest. If anyone know more about what happened to Keisha or if there is any way that I can help please let me know. Our home is always open to foster dogs, and i would love to help.
