Does the BC SPCA have a protocol in place to help animals whose owners cannot afford necessary euthanasia and cremation?

Does the BC SPCA have a protocol in place to help animals whose owners cannot afford necessary euthanasia and cremation?

"We don't euthanise any more" is the response callers get when they phone the BC SPCA shelters all over the province. Is this a public relations move or is this truly about the animals?

If the BC SPCA does have a protocol in place most owners will never know as the response to those asking for help for their suffering animals is the above.

How many animals will now suffer and die slowly in pain because the BC SPCA cannot think of potential consequences of their actions?
Animal issues are not black and white.

The BC SPCA has a history of dealing with issues without considering consequences (remember the moratorium) and this is another one which impacts the animals negatively.

While I applaud the BC SPCA no longer being part of the euthanasia of healthy OWNED animals , I question their lack of "hardship" exception.
Animals in severe pain at times do require humane euthanasia and this should not be denied by the BC SPCA.

The BC SPCA should make arrangements with local veternarians and subsidize these euthanasia's to the extent required. Obviously owners need to be responsible but the animal should not suffer in cases of genuine financial hardship.

For some animals the BC SPCA is their last hope.

It is no longer the policy of the BC SPCA to euthanize owned pets on payment of a fee.
