BC SPCA CEO Craig Daniell says the animals are the priority, but the evidence indicates otherwise

BC SPCA CEO Craig Daniell, in an interview with CTV that aired Nov. 2, 2003, states: "As long as I'm here with the Society, animal care is going to be my main priority, be that in terms of providing resources to our shelters or providing cruelty investigations."

Yet, the manager of a Vancouver Island SPCA branch reports the opposite. This manager has been told that the BC SPCA plans to lower the limit on veterinary spending per animal.

And the BC SPCA's Annual Report for 2002 states: "Proposed increases in the areas of cruelty investigations ... have been postponed."

So which is it?

It's long past time for an end to SPCA doublespeak. Only honesty will rid the SPCA of its critics. Honesty will garner respect. Honesty will increase donations. And only truly honest people can be trusted to never betray the animals they claim to speak for.
