My animal "liberation" story

We often went to our summer cabin to enjoy the beach, the quiet (no phone) and all of nature that surrounded us.

On one occasion, I noticed that there were new neighbours, who had a golden lab. The dog was tied onto a peg into the ground and had her food "dumped" into a container. She had no shelter!!! She was not spayed (how cruel is that???)

I watched to see if she was ever allowed into the house or taken off of the chain and that did not seem to happen. I approached her on a few occasions and found her to cower and put her tail between her legs---it took a bit of coaxing to get her to allow me to pet her. When I did touch her---she was all over me like a tent!!!! She was a wonderful, affectionate animal, craving human attention (the right kind). As we were not there full time, I decided to see what happened on our next trip---I was sickened and could not stand to see this beautiful creature treated this way. I called the SPCA to tell them of the situation.

When we returned the next time,--nothing had changed (despite calling the authorities) and it was pouring rain --- there she was out in the middle of the yard, curled up!!! OK---action must be taken.

I made my plan and when the time was right, quietly removed her from her "horrid prison".

She is now in "heaven on earth" and is being treated the way she deserves. She has children to visit and a warm home to be in 24 hours a day. She did not bark for several weeks---I am sure that she was used to being slapped whenever she barked. I have followed her and her owner is so grateful to have such a loving animal to share her life with.

Thank you all who have done this for a dog and I will continue to take action --when the authorities won't---to see that dogs do not have to withstand cruelty at their owner's hands
