It seems clear that some don't even know what issues they are truly fighting for

The first thing Craig Daniell did when he became acting CEO, was to eliminate 18 management positions from the BCSPCA, and this most recent batch of layoffs is a further reduction of SPCA dead wood. Anyone who knows anything about running a company, would see this as a prudent business decision by Craig Daniell. To blame him at this late date for bad decisions made in 2001, is unfair, as he is merely fixing the mistakes made by his predecessor. On the one hand Ms.Rogers is leveling criticism at Craig Daniell for the financial mess at the BCSPCA (which is not his fault), and in the next breath she's criticizing him for the steps he's taking to fix it.

The comments made by Ms.Rogers that, "We fear their decisions may result in the extinction of the SPCA in some of our communities", shows that many people still do not understand the BCSPCA's role in our communities. Let's clarify it once again: The BCSPCA has a provincial mandate to investigate and prevent cruelty. Nowhere within this mandate does it say anything about the SPCA operating pounds for municipalities. If the SPCA stops running a pound in a particular community, it does NOT mean the SPCA will be gone from that area. What it does mean, is that the municipality must run its own pound, and then the SPCA can get on with investigating and preventing cruelty, which is what everyone has been asking them to do all these years. If pounds are run by local governments or by a third party, then it should be the BCSPCA who watches these facilities to ensure humane standards are met.
