We have a lovely real tree that adorns hand made ornaments, around my tree is a fence!!!! We found the best way to keep the dogs from using the tree as indoor plumbing, plucking the ornaments and using them as chew toys, and from chewing on it was to put a fence around it! We used fencing lattice and bows to keep it attractive but most importantly keep the dogs away from it, it's worked for years and I am glad we do it!!! The fence comes down early Christmas morning and we put the presents under the tree, the fence goes back up when we are done.... We also do not use tinsel or garland as dogs seem to really be attracted to it!
