FROZEN DOGS: - the story that is not going to die: Driving the SPCA: AAS wants the SPCA to thrive, not destruct *LINK*

The BC SPCA has..all on it own... put itself into the humiliating and undignified position of playing catch-up with AAS. We do not want to have to drive the SPCA. We have said, more than a score of times, that we want an ethical and strong SPCA that we can trust to do the right thing for animals without being constantly watched and exposed. We have said repeatedly that we want a financially strong SPCA because a broke SPCA cannot prevent cruelty. We have praised the SPCA when it has done a right thing, but that is seldom and mainly involves the firing of the most egregiously bad employees. We have said many times that we want the SPCA to put us out of work by doing what is right. And yet the BC SPCA says repeatedly that AAS is trying to destroy it.

AAS is the one organization that has said over and over that we do not want the SPCA to fail, nor do we want it replaced: it has the huge structure (32 branches) in place; it has the experience (if only it would use it to prevent cruelty); and it has the money (if only it would spend it as its donators intend).

Ultimately it is the BC SPCA Board of Directors who are causing the SPCA to rapidly degenerate into a Society that is madly putting out fires and doing damage control. The once-proud SPCA is no longer in the driver's seat. But it could be again, if only it would understand what we have said for three years, over and over, that only honest and trustworthy behaviour can silence AAS. We do believe that the Board of Directors are going to destroy their organization if they don't stop spinning the truth and start telling the truth.
