This is a reflection of what AAS has said for many years: That "shelters" and pounds that accept owner-surrendered dogs are full of the dogs that no one wants to buy (and so must be killed) because most dogs are surrendered for being old, sick, aggressive, too common, too big, or just ugly. Whoever is importing these dogs has found a new way to make money from existing staff and facilites, and you can be sure that they are killing any sick or unsellable ones. It's just another proof of the many new sales practices in the pet shuffling business - finding new suppliers to meet market demand. It has nothing to do with compassion, but compassion is the main p.r. spin that big-business animal orgs have used so successfully for so many decades. To explain why they have so much product in their stores (which they so appealing call shelters), they blame those who supply all their product for free - the "iresponsible" pet dumpers: and to excuse the killing they say that the poor employees are noble and compassionate and doing a job that the rest of us aren't brave enough to do. All very successful marketing and p.r. in the dog-reselling business. The pounds that are doing this are just "taking care of business".
