Building a new shelter is not a solution - it is a BAND-AID and a costly one at that

Hmmmm, just wondering how many spay/neuters one could do with $1,500,000.00.

While a state of the art shelter is a “feel good” place to visit, it doesn’t even come close to addressing the problems of overpopulation and cruelty in this province – the main reasons that the BC SPCA is in existence.

The BC SPCA can wrap itself in all the fancy packaging it wants, but it doesn’t change the fact that they still support CAMP, they lack qualified people to investigate cruelty cases, they still have people on the payroll that are overpaid and under qualified, and they have not lobbied any level of government to amend the laws to stop tethering, backyard breeders and puppy/kitten mills in this province.

Building a new shelter is not a solution - it is a BAND-AID and a costly one at that.

One last note, the Victoria branch of the BC SPCA had $4,000,000.00 in its coffers at one time. Why is the Victoria branch having to embark on a “capital campaign” to raise the 1.5mm needed to build their dream?
