Baby bear was humanely trapped by District Conservation Officer Peter Pauwels on Raven Heights Drive in the Highlands. The bear was then safely transported to the North Island Wildlife Recovery Association on Friday Feb. 13, 2004.
Robin Campbell of N.I.W.R.A. reports it will be two or three weeks before any definitive comment can be made on the health of baby bear.

I was extremely impressed with the caring of the community of the Highlands who ensured this baby bear had the best chance possible.
The assistance and advice given by many other bear rescue groups was also invaluable and led to the successful relocation of this baby bear to a respected recovery facility.
