Big Heart Society rescues more pups from Bella Bella: Education and Relationship Building Does Work! *LINK*

Big Heart Rescue provided a vaccination and health check program in Bella Bella during January 2003 and as a result of this effort, we were able to provide humane animal welfare education and develop strong relationships with community members who attended the clinic.

Big Heart Rescue is now seeing the fruits of these extended efforts!

Approximately six weeks ago we received a call from an owner of a dog who has had litter after litter for five years and was now requesting that we assist with re-homing the most recent set of puppies. This was agreeable on one condition, that the mother be spayed. The owner agreed and Mom and her litter where flown down to the lower mainland, placed in loving foster homes and the final pup was adopted a few days ago.

And now we have received a second call from Bella Bella requesting assistance for placement of nine puppies and wondering if Big Heart Rescue would provide spaying for the Mom. During the conversation it came as no surprise to discover that this mother is only 2 years old and has produced three litters in the past year and a half.

Without hesitation Big Heart Rescue has agreed and an adoptive Mom of a Bella Bella pup who works with Pacific Coastal Airlines has agreed to fly up and escort this very large family back to the lower mainland where they will be placed in a loving foster home while the pups are weaned.

The spaying of these two females will result in a minimum of 30 less puppies per year being born into conditions that are less than ideal for beloved companions who only wish for love, safety, security and a full tummy.

Bottom line….education and relationship building works!
