We still condone the keeping of so-called domestic critters, because we like to think we are kind and benevolent owners

I recently posted two messages to another board, regarding this human need to 'own' and 'breed' other species. For some years now, I have believed that it is not our right to use animals for any purpose: not for showing, entertainment, food, experimentation, work, as pets, etc.

We have finally begun to condemn owing many 'wild' species, yet we still condone the keeping of so-called domestic critters, because we like to think we are kind and benevolent owners. This is simply a power trip for humans.

If we finally recognize that it is cruel to use elephants, tigers, wolves, chimps, for our entertainment, why are dogs and cats still under our control, with chain fences and collars?

Someone replied to my posting with the argument that most breeds of dogs cannot survive in the wild or whelp without our assistance. This statement made my point explicitly...mankind has turned what was supposed to be a natural occurrence, into another human-dominated event.

Animals are not ours to use, period. All breeding and captivity should cease immediately. When our current dogs and cats that we 'keep' are gone, there should be no further breeding. The wild dogs and cats should remain right where they are today: free, unfenced or collared, in their own society, as nature (not humans) intended.
