The SPCA's Violence Link Project is "pure baloney" says former SPCA director *LINK*

"In the past, the thrust of the SPCA has been reaction and enforcement. “We envision the new organization as more proactive, focusing on prevention and intervention,” says Lorie Chortyk, community relations director for the BC SPCA. “Not only would we step in after cruelty has happened, we would do more work to prevent it from happening in the first place and to help people deal with animal issues before they become serious problems. “The new face of the BC SPCA will be a community face,” says Chortyk. “We want to develop relationships with other community organizations so that we can work together to make connections and help everyone take responsibility for animals in our communities.”

One way the SPCA is already doing this is working with social service agencies and police to help staff in the SPCA and these organizations identify connections between animal abuse and other forms of violence. “We are also involved in helping women in abusive relationships move to transition homes with their pets, we’re facilitating the creation of psychological treatment programs for people who have abused animals so that they won’t reoffend, and we’re working with other community organizations on issues such as injured wildlife rehabilitation and oiled sea bird rescue,” says, Craig Naherniak, the Society ’s director of education.

"Years of this sort of deliberate deceit is why I left the BCSPCA", says our source who wishes to remain anonymous. "Twenty years of announcements that are designed to fool the media and donators, and that's all. There is no education, no building bridges with First Nations, no spay/neuter, no help for the pets of victims of violence, no preventing cruelty from happening in the first place or help for people with animal issues before they become serious problems. There is now a lot of grandstanding seizing from people instead though."
