None of the dogs I have rescued from the SPCA have been what I was told

I have got many dogs from the SPCA in the years and I am happy they call me as the breeds I rescue tend not to put their best paw forward in a kennel situation. That being said I am always amazed at the notes on the assessments that I get as the dogs are usually opposite of what they were assessed to be! Most dogs regardless of breed don't do well in a shelter environment and some just don't fair well, thankfully they are calling rescue but some shelters don't. Some shelters are better than others and I know at Delta, Kirsten will often take a dog home to see what it's really like, or ask an experienced foster home to see in a home environment what the dog is really like. This is SO important as many dogs are totally different out of the shelter environment. I have had reportedly dangerous dogs who are dog aggressive and deemed unadoptable, once in my home they are fine! I have dogs of my own and have no choice to bring them home and see how they do, I haven't had a fight yet! I might be lucky but none of the dogs I have rescued have been what I was told. This is why it's so important for the SPCA to utilize ALL the resources available to them, foster homes, rescue, trainers whatever it may be. ALL dogs should be given a chance to show their true colors!
