The SPCA's finances are hidden from the donators who give it twenty million a year. It is protected from Freedom Of Information requests because it was created as part of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

It has defied the law that says it must file audited financial statements and it continues to.

Please take a moment to write a brief letter to the following people at the BC Government. Here is a sample that you may use if you prefer:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I urge the BC Government to take immediate action and follow Recommendation #3 of the FOI Special Committee that says "Investigate why the B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was assigned the dual status of a public body and a non-profit society in the first place and whether there is a case for clarifying or even changing its status."

The BCSPCA has a twenty million dollar annual budget that is primarily made up from public donations. It has managed to run up a multi-million dollar deficit several years in a row and yet animal care is still not at publicly acceptable levels. It is of grave concern that nobody up to this point has held them accountable and that for several years the BCSPCA has failed to provide the audited financial statements which are required of them by law. Therefore, I urge the government to take this review even further and do a full investigation into the BCSPCA's financial activities. The BCSPCA can no longer be allowed to waste such exorbitant amounts of public money that is given to them in good faith by citizens of British Columbia.
