I Just recieved this from a lady in a GSD rescue group. How scary and sad is this?

I am just returning from the Virginia Federation of Dog Clubs
and Breeders
Delegates meeting today with a heavy heart. Virginia Senate Bill
260 passed
unanimously and the Governor refused to veto.

What is Va SB 260? It is the bill (and now the LAW) that says
that all
rescue
organizations (like Greyhound Pets, Golden Retriever Rescue of
Tidewater,
etc) must be registered with the state, keep meticulous records
on every dog
it places FOR FIVE YEARS after placement, be open "regular
business hours"
and pay an annual fee to be permitted to operate in the state.

It gets worse! ANY person who is a Foster Homes for animals
MUST- register
with the state, pay an annual fee of $100, and be subject to 2
inspections a
year by Animal Control or Game Wardens.

Sadly- this bill was pushed through by the Virginia State Humane
Society and
Save Or Shelters (a nonprofit, shelter supporter) Are they
afraid we were
putting them out of business?!? Most of the rescues I know of
(of various
breeds) came from shelters!

This is a very scary situation in Virginia! My mother (who
founded
Pomeranian rescue on the east coast) just informed her club she
can't rescue
anymore. There are several friends in Goldens, Labs, Gordon
Setters, and
Tibetan Terriers that are now in violation of the law- without
warning! They
have
advertised they do breed rescue! The Va Federation puts out a
Breeders Guide
of Virginia Breeders and now, will no longer list local rescue-
on the
National rescue coordinator (on the hope they are not in the
state either!)

I tell everyone about this as a heads-up. If it can pass here,
it could crop
up anywhere!! Keep an eye on your state, and loca, legislators,
that they
try
not to do something similar. It would kill purebred rescue and
leave those
poor animals to the shelters and whatever future that brings
them (if it
brings them a future).
