Dear Animal Advocates,
I have heard the audio transcript of this interview and I am able to say that based on the financial information available to me when I was a Director and President of the Society that the Victoria manager was grossly uninformed or grossly misinformed as to the amount and disposition of the Society's reserves including Victoria's money.
Victoria's reserves were never 11 million or anything close. The audited statements of the Victoria Branch clearly show that the market value of these reserves was $4,529,878 on December 31, 2000.
It is also very clear that on November 3, 2001 all of the Society's finances including Victoria's reserve funds came under the control of the Provincial Society.
The Society's financial statements for 2001, 2002 and 2003 clearly show that all of the Society's unrestricted reserves which included Victoria's money were spent covering operating losses over that period.
I believe that the BC SPCA prides itself on its honesty in financial reporting. I look forward to someone from the BC SPCA who is informed coming onto the radio and providing us with the correct information.
Sincerely,
Rick Sargent
