I used to volunteer at Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre on Saltspring Island where no amount of time, effort or money was spared to heal injured wildlife of all kinds.
However, if, after the best of efforts, it was apparent that the bird or animal would not be able to released into the wild, it was euthanized rather than hold it as a life long captive.
The public was also not allowed at the Centre, as the goal was to keep the wildlife wild, for their eventual successful release.
Too bad the Vancouver Aquarium does not share these ethics.
