andy - the burdock dog

Another call to AAS for help - this time for Andy...

"I got a call about this poor dog yesterday. He showed up at some offices located about 7 km south of Lytton on Hwy 1.

He had no collar so the people were calling him Andy.

The people who found him put his picture on Facebook, but nobody came forward so they called me.

As you can see, Andy is covered in burdock. It is one of the worst cases I have ever seen. When we try to pet him he flinches because of the discomfort. He will need to find a new home once we get him cleaned up.
I said I would take him under the condition that I would not be returning him to his owner as he has clearly been neglected. The people agreed and gave him to me.

Andy came to us covered in burdocks and in obvious discomfort. Despite this, he has been a kind loyal friend. While content to mill about casually, he loves his walks and is good on a leash. He has a calm demeanor and is not nervous when meeting people. Andy has ignored the numerous cats that have come to welcome him to their home.  He has been friendly to men, women and children. He is about 100 lbs.

Andy is good with people. Even when I wrestled him to put drops into his bad ear, he was never aggressive. Everyone that sees him comments on how handsome he is. I even had a car stop to talk to me about him. Yesterday, a 12 year-old student of mine came over for a visit and Andy was fine with him.

There has been such a flood of appeals for help this year that we may not be able to reply very quickly or at all to more appeals. AAS is now so well-known for its experience in all animal welfare and rescue matters that we are asked for advice and help from all over BC, Canada, the U.S. and the world.  For years I have answered each and every appeal with detailed advice that I have learned from 20 years of rescue and advocacy. Our high standards are well-known to the public, that is why we are so often asked for help and advice.

We are currently working on so many projects that I am sorry to have to tell you that we may not be able to help you with your rescue and/or your personal bills.
