Ebony’s Happy Ending

2008

The Joy of Being Ebony

After years tied to a car under which she slept and sheltered from storms and heat, a nameless, plain black mutt was surrendered to the postal worker who saw her every day, and who was finally given her after much begging. AAS gets many reports of suffering dogs from posties, bless them...

Ruth and Andy adopted Java through AAS many years ago. Java's best friend died of old age and he was missing her, so Ruth and Andy phoned us.

I can still hardly believe this... One of the all-time great adoptions and happy endings!

As soon as we arrived, Java rushed up to Ebby, and in a split second the two were playing madly!! (She was grumpy with my dogs!)

This is the best photo we could get because they were just a blur most of the time

Java doesn't care a bit that she is a bit possessive, he's so good natured. (My dogs steered clear of her if she had a toy!)

Ebby gives Java "the look"

Java says he doesn't mind any look, just as long as she stays!

We went in the house, and between mad bouts of play with Java,
Ebby would go to Andy for some love...

then go to Ruth for some love...

and then go check the birds at the feeder while Java 'talks' a bit...

...and then back to Java for more "happy lunactics" play. This went on until I had to go. I took her with me, according to AAS rules (so that people have time to carefully consider and so that the dog doesn't feel suddenly "abandoned"), but in this case, it was a bit silly of me. The next day she played all day with Java and then slept with him beside Andy and Ruth's bed, just as though this was the home and family that she knew all along was hers; she only had to find it.

We hope Ebby and Java have a long life together, because now it's really worth being alive!

One last photo.  Ebony is a natural water-dog who never was taken for a swim (or anywhere).  Here she is just learning to have fun in the water.  Swimming will be one her continuing joys.
