Jerry’s Happy Ending

2001

Jerry was a drug house dog...

He was purchased as an innocent pup from a backyard breeder and chained to the porch. When his "masters" walked by him, they would kick him out of the way. If they didn't come to the house that day, Jerry didn't get fed. And when the house was busted, they left Jerry on his chain. That was the chance that "Gail" was waiting for. She had seen Jerry every day for months, but he was so desocialized and seemingly dangerous, and the drug sellers were so terrifying, that she hadn't dared to rescue him. Gail phoned AAS and asked if she removed Jerry, would we take him. The answer always has to be yes, of course. If someone is willing to take the risk, AAS is willing to pay the money to rehabilitate the dog. Jerry was a handful for several months because he was terrified of men, but slowly, with lots of patience and experienced handling with lots of different people being part of his recovery process, he came around. Jerry's rehabilitation took a year because we had to be sure that he was safe to rehome. His rehabilitation cost AAS $6,000, more than the usual, but once started, there is no turning back. Look at Jerry now, calm, loving, playful and a valued family member. He came a long way from the scared pup chained to a drug house...

Update

Here we are at the beach, about 1 hr after you left....we took the leash off as he was having a great time and being so obedient...the gang at the park all loved him .....Jerry loves to chase the waves, but doesn't bark at them, he also loves to fetch sticks in the water, only sticks, no interest in balls or toys....but he can't swim!!! I have never seen a dog actually SINK before!!!..Out he went after his stick, hit the drop off and sank like a stone...but up he popped (thank heavens as I was ready to go in after him!) and wasn't scared at all, couldn't keep him out of the water! He let all of our lady friends give him a quick pat, and he wasn't even too fazed by the men he met, but they all knew he was our " new dog" so nobody pushed it and all was well....he just finished polishing off 1/2 bowl of Innova crunchies. Maybe he thought they were treats!...Jerry is definitely female oriented, doesn't let me out of his sight, right now as I am at the computer he is sitting quietly beside me with his head on my knee, nosing at my hand to get me to pat him....at the beach he kept running back and forth between myself and Mark to make sure we were both there. Anyway..that's this afternoon's update.
Woof-woof!!
Caro, Mark, Phoenix and Tika...

You can help to pay AAS's vet and rehab bills so that we can go on doing this for the dogs that have only us. All donations go directly to real animal welfare.
