THE ELIZABETH ECKERT FUND FOR ANIMAL WELFARE
Using Elizabeth's fund to help animals, just as she wanted, just as we promised her.
The stories of dogs we have helped using Elizabeth's Fund are only a few of the many ways and many dogs we are helping all the time.

August/02.   Sent $100 to Sherry Woodsford of Save A Pet in Surrey to allow her to buy a sickly wolf hybrid pup from a back yard breeder.
The story: The breeder has been breeding and selling wolf hybrid pups for several years.   The parents are father and daughter, sometimes brother and sister.  This inbreeding has produced pups with genetic disease such as holes in hearts and seizures.   The male lived outside and the female and pups lived in a feces filled room in the house.  The female was bred twice a year producing litters of 8-10 pups which were sold for $400 to $500 each.  The usual purchaser of a wolf hybrid is a person who likes the attention the dog attracts and who often breeds their pup also.  The breeder sold to anyone with the money, sometimes to purchasers she did not meet.   Sherry talked the breeder into having the female spayed (which Sherry paid for) and the male was put down because of uncontrollable seizures.  The SPCA has been told of this situation many times.  The SPCA  put the male down and it put down a pup with a hole in its heart.  As far as we know, it has not asked the City of Surrey for a bylaw to control back yard breeding, although this practice has been rampant in Surrey for decades. The breeder has told Sherry that she intends to next breed German shepherds.   Surrey residents: if you want this and the hundreds of other breeders in Surrey controlled you must form a group and go to your City council and ask for control of breeding bylaws.  (click here to read AAS's version)
August/02   Sent $500 to Creston PAWS Society to help to pay for the expenses incurred in rescuing fifty-six dogs where they had been chained in the woods to trees for years.  Creston PAWS web site is http://www.crestonbc.com/paws/ , go to Topaz Creek Rescue.  See also how the media gave the credit to the SPCA for this massive rescue thereby robbing Creston PAWS of all the donations that animal-lovers sent the SPCA instead. In fact, the SPCA had been told about these dogs (and many cats so sick they all  had to be euthanised) for years and had done (as usual) nothing. click here

August/02 Sent $100 to the District of North Vancouver shelter to help pay for leg surgery for "Millie", the young cross breed that was hit by a car after running in fear from her burning house, and whose owners surrendered her to the shelter.

Sept/02 - Paid $450 for another month's fostering and training rehabilitation for Keesha who had been badly neglected for several years in a coastal village in BC.  Keesha's rehabilitation is long-term and will go on until she is entirely rehabilitated. So far she has cost AAS $1750.

October/02 - Expenses for Mayan, the   puppy machine who lived in the woods with her drug-addicted owner, who sold her pups for drug money (this is common), $475.00 (a broken, rotten tooth had to be removed).

November/02 - Expenses for a litter of sick, wormy pups, shots, microchipping, etc.

January/03 - Bought Cujo, a sad guard industry dog, for $1800,  You can read this amazing story here: THE GUARD DOG INDUSTRY

December/02 - On-going shelter /foster expenses at several good shelters.

The donations made in Elizabeth's name have helped neglected dogs in so many ways:  Actual rescue of the dog and expensive rehabilitation and vet care; and expensive newspaper ads showing these dogs' suffering is pushing the SPCA toward the goal of preventing this abuse.  You can see  the hard-hitting AAS ads at: AAS ADVERTS, and you can see some of the dogs that we investigate and report to the SPCA at: CRUELTY REPORTS LINKS PAGE and you can read just some of AAS's Happy Endings' stories at: HAPPY ENDINGS!
