In Memory of "Marko" |

Marko: Born May 1997, sold by a guard dog breeder for $2200. Went to his rest March 2012
I loved Marko so much, I can't tell you what a gentle soul he was. He
was the only dog I would trust wholeheartedly with a baby out of all my
dogs. He just didn't have a mean bone in his body. He was a worrier
too and always had a worried look on his face which always just melted
my heart and made him look so innocent. He loved only me, what a
responsibility it was to hold his heart. No dog will ever compare to
him. He was an incredibly good looking boy as well. He endured such
isolation and physical abuse that his amazing demeanor was nothing short
of a miracle. I was so blessed to cross paths with him and as much as I
dislike his former owner for what he did to him I am at the same time so
grateful that he agreed to give him to me.
I worried about Marko for two
years, often falling asleep thinking about him alone in his awful
four-sided plywood cell, boxed in and shut out from the world. In the
day he lived on short chain totally alone. Marko was a guard dog at my
place of work and I was told by multiple coworkers of their eye witness
accounts of Marko being abused by the security guard. Everything from
being thrown off of speeding boats, kicked in the stomach, locked for
days at a time in a kennel with plywood on all sides, to having his leg
broken when he was yanked off the back of a truck. So many dogs are
neglected but Marko was truly abused. Despite never being socialized
with other dogs and being an intact male (I chose not to neuter him at
8yrs old) he loved every dog he met. He really was such an inspiration. |
