The Victoria SPCA killed little Jade.
Don't ask how this can happen...
it's inevitable when employees are not interested in their helpless charges.

Dear Sir/Madam:

I lived in Victoria up until September 2, 1998 and had three dogs, two German Shepherds and a Jack Russell Terrier. Having three dogs was not a problem because I owned my home and had a fenced in yard.
On September 2, 1998 we moved to Vancouver where we are renting. It is very difficult to find a decent place to rent with three dogs. We found a landlord willing to rent to us but only if we had no more than two dogs.

Reluctantly I had to choose one of my three dogs to put up for adoption. I decided that Jade, my nine pound Jack Russell terrier had the best chance to be adopted quickly.

When I brought Jade into the Victoria SPCA on the morning of Sept.2,1998, the girl working at the front desk assured me that because of Jade's size, she would be adopted most likely the same day.  She asked me to take a seat and as I sat there holding Jade I was full of emotion.  An SPCA employee came from the back wearing big gloves. The only thing he asked me was "does the dog bite?" He then took her and walked to the back. I then continued to complete the paper work with the girl at the front desk.

The following Tuesday after the long weekend I phoned the Victoria SPCA from Vancouver to make sure that Jade had been adopted. This is when I was told that Jade had accidentally been put down immediately after I had brought her in on September 2nd. When the person on the phone told me this I felt like I had just been clubbed across the chest with a 2 by 4. I was unable to catch my breath and could barely talk. I have been depressed about this ever since I found out.

I would like to know how this happened, what is being done to prevent this from happening to someone else's beloved pet and what has been done to punish the person(s) responsible for this.

Enclosed is a picture of Jade with my daughter Stephanie. I have not yet been able to tell Stephanie what has happened to Jade.
