Emma and the pups go to the vet for the first time! *LINK* *PIC*

Just thought I’d share the story of taking Emma and her four pups to the vets today. What an ordeal that was. First, after realizing that these little guys have tripled in size, I was desperately digging around in my storage trying to find crates that they would fit into. I was able to squeeze two into my biggest one and then the other two had to be squished into two other crates. Not a lot of room to spare. Eddy, the only male pup, instead of acting like the strong male, cried the whole way while the girls were so good. It was an ordeal getting Emma in the truck, where she rode up front with me. The poor thing shook the whole way.

Then getting them all into the clinic, which was accomplished with several trips and a lot of coaxing for Emma as she’s never been on a walking leash and she’s very uneasy going into places. But I had taken the pups in first in their crates and she trusts me, so after some time she very shyly walked through the door, tail between her legs. So it’s really like I have five pups here as they all need to be handled with care.

Once in the exam room I let them out to stretch their legs and luckily because I had let them play an hour outside before we left and the stress of the ride, they had some water and then all sprawled out on the floor for a snooze. When Brian the vet came in he commented on how well behaved they were and I just laughed.

But I wanted to tell everyone, just in case you do hear of excellent homes, that Brian was very impressed with how healthy everyone was and what great looking dogs they were. He really, really liked Emma and loved her temperament. She weighed in at 103 pounds and he figures she is only about two years old. Poor thing, as I know she’s had at least one other litter before this one. So even though there was a bit more whining from Eddy on the exam table when he was getting his nails cut, everyone left with a clean bill of health. Ruby, the little black and tan odd ball was in perfect health too even though I had her in for an emergency vet visit a couple of days after I got her because she was vomiting and foaming at the mouth, but she tested negative for Parvo, which was a great relief to me, and must have just eaten something funny. She is now as healthy as can be and everyone has had their first vaccinations. They’re due to go back in on the 30th of December for their boosters, but I think I’m going to talk the vet into letting me give that myself as they definitely won’t fit in cages then, if I still have them. Emma is going in to be spayed on December 17th and having a cyst removed on her front right leg.

So everyone is in perfect health and now ready for me to push for finding excellent homes.

P.S. Thank you again Judy Stone of Animal Advocates for offering to cover this vet visit and also another thanks to Linda, Corrie and Anne who were so very kind and generous to send me money to help me with the cost of food for everyone. Animal lovers are the best!!!!!
