Life, with all its seeming confusion and strife, is really quite simple. All of it can be measured or quantified, if you will, by one continuum. That continuum is subtended by two polarities. At one extreme is, "Those who cause pain to others", at the other is, "Those who do not".

It is also important to note that "Those who do not" have to spend a major portion of their time and energy and resources rectifying what "Those who cause pain to others" have done or are doing.

Further, it is important to note, when one is engaged in self-examination, that this continuum is one of extremes and that it is not only possible but necessary to move from one of those extremes to the other. It is easy to be one of "Those who cause pain to others". All you have to do is remain self-indulgent and, thereby, ignorant of other's pain. To be one who does not cause pain to others requires constant vigilance, self-examination and action to change oneself.

"Those who do not" must relearn from the horrors that human society teaches.

"For as long as space endures, and, for as long as living beings remain, may I too abide to dispel the misery of the world." Shanti Deva
