Fake meat is a brilliant solution. Those who want to continue to eat flesh can do so without causing suffering or environmental damage on the current scale. Technology only exists to provide humans with what they want when nature hasn't. Humans will always find a way to have what they want, so meat-eating is going to exist for some time to come.

I don't eat meat because of the harm to animals, the environment, and only peripherally because of the harm to my own health. But fake meat could come with heavy user-pay taxes to cover the health costs of eating it. That's the way it should be now. Tax meat to pay for the health costs and a lot of people who didn't care about their hearts and colons, will care about their pocketbooks and stop eating meat.
