Dear Animal Advocates,
In 2002, when I was a Director of the BC SPCA, the Board approved a policy called the Animal Management Plan. Under this policy the only approved methods of "euthanization" are lethal injection and the use of a free bullet for large animals in the field. If the SPCA is approving any other form of "euthanization" then they do so in breach of their own policies.
I use the term euthanization as the SPCA uses it , that is to describe all humane killing of animals, regardless of reason. The true definition of euthanisation is restricted to a painless death to end untreatable suffering. The proper term to describe the killing of rabbits in Kelowna is destruction presumably in a painless and humane manner - it is not euthanazation except in the minds of those trying to hide a bad deed under a compassionate label.
Sincerely,
Rick Sargent
