SARS BC deals with rabbits and we never euthanize unless a vet feels it is the best course of action based on QOL and or pain & suffering. We care for the special needs, elderly and unadoptables so sadly many of them get to a point where they may need to be put down.

I trust my vet and he trusts me to make the right decision when it is required.

It is always hard but we are always there with the animal as they pass. One of our vets even allowed us into his home, off hours to bring an animal in that was suffering, to be pts.

I can't imagine the fear & terror of a prey animal being restrained and then having a bolt driven through its skull. Most of our bunnies come in as strays aka FERAL bunnies, and there is absolutely no reason they need to be destroyed or deemed un-rehab-able.

This whole situation is heart breaking and sadly goes un-noticed by most since rabbits are still considered a cheap & easy disposable starter pet and they also hover in the grey fuzzy area of being a domesticated animal vs a farm animal...not very newsworthy unfortunately.

Is the penetrating bolt gun still on SPCA's own approved-methods list?
Why does any animal-welfare humane society have a "list" of approved methods of killing?
More questions: Do you run an animal welfare organization in BC? How many methods of killing do you use?
