There may be fewer cats & dogs at the SPCA shelters throughout the province but that certainly is NOT the case for the small animals, more specifically, the rabbits.
Shelters are seeing more and more than they ever have before and they are unable to cope with the numbers.
As a result we get daily calls from SPCAs throughout the province asking us to help. To be honest, as hard as it is to try to meet the demand, I am grateful there are staff there that care enough to make the call on behalf of the *others* (anything other than a cat or dog). In the past, they just disappeared.
Michele at Maple Ridge is the first to call to ask for help and she truly cares. I am also blown away by the efforts of the smaller shelters outside the lower mainland. The small animals have someone on their side even if the system isn't.
Sadly SPACE IS AN ISSUE for the small animals.
