I don't think there is any need for vivisection. I don't think there ever was. It is a highly immoral industry, and there are many alternatives to vivisection today.
Frankly, I don't understand Shawn Eccles' moral confusion. I don't think someone who works for the SPCA should be involving himself in regulating vivisection, thereby condoning it. If Eccles and the SPCA are not opposed to all forms of vivisection, why not? Does anyone know if the SPCA has a public statement about vivisection and if it does, when it was published?
Charlotte Montgomery's book "Blood Relations" is a must read if you want to know about vivisection in Canada. It is alarmingly widespread and well hidden. The Internet is a good source of reasons to oppose vivisection, as well as the alternatives available.
