Edmonton Humane Society also accepts dogs from local reserves

You don't have your facts straight about Edmonton Humane Society transfer programs. The Society regularly brings in dogs from just outside the Edmonton area (reserves) and from small rescue groups that don't have shelters, and also other Humane Societies and SPCA's across Canada when they have room to bring in dogs - and that is often. That group has said repeatedly that dogs are quickly adopted from their shelter and that they regularly have room to bring in others. They also state that they never make room for any other dogs, and that Alberta dogs are their priority. They only help other organizations that are desperate for help whenever they are able without affecting the animals already in their care. Also, they regularly state that their adoption numbers for all species of animals in their care spike when the California dogs come in, because of all the hype. Someone comes looking for a Chihuahua and realizes through their counselling session that the type of breed is not for them, and they go home with an Alberta born german shepherd or even a cat instead. Hats off to them for trying to draw people into the shelter to save a life by adopting from them, instead of through an on-line ad or a pet store that are often supplied by puppy mills. I had a lot of questions when I first heard about them bringing in california dogs, but then found out the truth.
