Re: Most people are still meat eaters so they are serving what the majority wants

False reasoning - the majority of people may want something, and that does not neccessarily make them right, nor make their "want" a moral neccessity. What people choose to eat is up to their own conscience, and it is based on many things. It's a very complicated emotionally charged issue, and I don't want to be the "food police."

That said, at a fund-raiser "for the animals" (any animals or birds or fish) meat should not be served, because it is completely contradictory to the supposed ideals of the fund-raiser. It makes no sense to chew away on one animal's dead carcass in order to raise money for some other animal that we deem to be more important, cuter, more intelligent, more like us, more like our "pets" etc.

Further, there is absolutely no "need" for it. Even non-vegetarians, must at times have a meal that is at least vegetarian, if not vegan. Don't tell me that non-vegetarians have a slab of meat at every single meal or snack of their lives, cuz it's just not true.

Non-vegetarians might be happily surprised by a meatless fund-raiser - and even if they are not, they can put up with it, because don't they care about animals? Isn't that why people go to these fund-raisers in the first place?

When we go to a fund-raising dinner for children somewhere, do we round up some not so cute teenagers so we can step on their faces as we step up to the bar? Of course not! Crazy idea, right? Ideally, we want to protect all children, not just our own. Let's extend that same caring attitude towards all animals.

If animal welfare and animal rights groups still want to serve meat at fund-raisers, I want to see their position statement up in the form of a banner - big and bold for everyone to see - "We care about the select few animals that we choose tonight. The animals you are about to eat are not in that group. We don't care about them - they are raised for our consumption and beneath our notice." At least that would be honest.

SPCA fundraiser serves up every kind of animal for profit
Be fair... the SPCA isn't profiting from dead dogs or cats or horses
Most people are still meat eaters so they are serving what the majority wants
Re: Most people are still meat eaters so they are serving what the majority wants
... is that a lie????
Should the SPCA be in business to give people what they want or to protect animals?
The whole place went silent when she stood up and said that
