If you want to buy a serval all you need to do is to surf the net and have $2800+. Here is the URL for Loki's Nanaimo serval breeder, Ingrid Rustad. http://members.shaw.ca/vklassen/ingrid/home.htm
It is interesting to note that her servals are declawed completely before sale, which makes it difficult for them to be placed in zoos or rescue facilities if problems develop. Zoos do not declaw animals like this as a routine procedure, so declawed ex-pets have few ways to protect themselves against attacks by other servals.
It is surprising that there are obviously veterinarians who will declaw animals like servals. In my opinion this is a cruel practice.
Servals were exhibited at the Vancouver Island Exhibition on the weekend of August 15-17 by Randy Langelier, who works as a receptionist with his brother, Dr. Ken Langelier, at Island Veterinary Hospital . Randy displayed two servals who he said had been rescued from owners who could not cope with their animals. You can understand the fascination with this species. They are stunning to look at- sleek and elegant. I hope not too many people with the "I want one" mentality passed by this exhibit and searched for a breeder.
